Notes for next year’s art syllabus, Part 1
- Lesson structure: Every art project has requirements and freedoms. I define the requirements against which you will be graded. Within that set of requirements, there will usually be a great deal of freedom for personal expression.
- Restroom breaks: I allow restroom breaks with my permission. Ask only after I have taken attendance and I have given the lecture or demonstration. Include the words “may” and “please.”
- Grading: Generally, each day is worth 10 points. Some projects will have additional points at completion. For art history reading, you will be graded on the multiple choice answers and the effort put into the specified drawing. For art activities, you earn the full 10 points by
- 1. staying on task the entire class period;
- 2. working toward the stated goals of the day’s project; and
- 3. giving your best effort.
- Makeup work: If you need to make up an excused absence (including for sports,) you must get makeup work from me the very next day that you are in class. The work will be due the following school day. Late makeup work will be accepted but marked down. You may not makeup work for unexcused absences.
