"So many memories of good times spent with Petie over
40 years - rafting the Snake, crossing the Grand Canyon from N to S rim and a canoe trip
in the Boudary Waters of Minnesota/Canada come to mind - all more fun because of her
presence.
"One that is indelible is a trip she and I took to Egypt B.G. (Before Gary.) After the
requisite trip up the Nile we took a few days to see Cairo. One of Petie's wishes was to
see the Pyramids at dawn. We got a room in Giza with a "pyramid view" and at o-dark
hundred the next A.M. we were off trekking to the Pyramids. We were alone but for some
stray camels. She looked up at Cheop's pyramid and innocently asked me if I'd bail her
out if she got arrested - she of course wanted to climb the thing! - even tho there were
signs all over promising arrest if a climb were attempted. I'm sure she thought she
could outrun the guys in those long white robes. I declined, as I had visions of
spending our remaining days in a Cairo jail which didn't sound appealing to us.
"We all will miss Petie terribly, but we do have many wonderful times to recall. I
know no one who enjoyed life, friends or a new challenge more than she." - Patty Sue
